Cap and cove flooring refers to a unique method of floor covering installation that provides a seamless and hygienic finish. The system consists of two main components – the 'cap' and the 'cove'. The 'cove' is a sheet of flooring material that extends up the wall, usually by 100mm, while the 'cap' is a trim that neatly covers the joint where the floor and wall meet. This flooring system is especially beneficial in areas where cleanliness and hygiene are paramount, such as bathrooms, commercial kitchens, and healthcare facilities.
Cap and cove flooring is not only a functional flooring solution but also a practical choice for a variety of businesses:
- Healthcare facilities. Its hygienic and easy-to-clean properties make it a preferred choice for healthcare facilities such as GP surgeries, dental clinics, and hospitals, where maintaining a sterile environment is crucial.
- Hospitality and restaurants. It's also advantageous in industries such as food service and hospitality, where cleanliness is a top priority. Commercial kitchens, restaurants, and hotel bathrooms can all benefit from the seamless and waterproof nature of cap and cove flooring.
- Schools. Educational institutions and childcare centres, where spills and accidents are commonplace, can also find this type of flooring to be a practical and durable solution.
- Offices. Even corporate settings such as offices or retail spaces can opt for cap and cove flooring for its sleek, professional look and easy maintenance.
Cap and cove flooring can be executed with various materials, but cap and cove vinyl flooring is a popular choice due to its durability and ease of maintenance. The vinyl material used is typically resistant to moisture and easy to clean, making it ideal for spaces exposed to water or heavy foot traffic.
The cap and cove trim plays a crucial role in the system. It is designed to create a smooth, uninterrupted transition between the floor and the wall, helping to ensure the space is kept as clean and hygienic as possible.
Pros and Cons of Cap and Cove Flooring
One of the key advantages of cap and cove flooring is its seamless finish that leaves no corners or edges for dirt or bacteria to accumulate. This makes cleaning much easier and helps maintain a high standard of hygiene. Cap and cove vinyl flooring is also water-resistant and durable, making it a great option for areas prone to spills or heavy use.
The aesthetic appeal of this flooring system is another significant benefit. The smooth transition from floor to wall created by the cap and cove trim provides a clean, professional look that can enhance the overall ambiance of a space.
While cap and cove flooring has many benefits, there are a few considerations to keep in mind. Installation can be slightly more complex compared to traditional flat lay flooring, requiring skilled installers for a flawless finish. This can potentially increase the cost of installation. Furthermore, although cap and cove vinyl flooring is durable, sharp objects or heavy equipment can cause damage, requiring repair or replacement of the affected area.
In conclusion, cap and cove flooring, with its focus on cleanliness, hygiene, and aesthetic appeal, offers an excellent solution for specific spaces. By understanding the unique features of this flooring system, you can make an informed decision about whether it's the right choice for your project.

Staircase renovation with vinyl: Order stair nosing
To start renovating your stairs with vinyl, all you have to do after selecting your dream floor and the right type is fill in the order form. You must specify the exact collection and decor name of the desired floor. You also need to measure the staircase that is to be renovated with vinyl. Information about the height and length of the steps is necessary, as well as the required number, type and, if applicable, the dimensions of the undertreat(only relevant for type C).
If you want to cover a turned staircase with vinyl, you can alternatively work with an oversize. You can then adjust the stair edges on site. This is possible with types A, B and C. This allows you to adapt the stair nosing perfectly to the conditions in your home. If you have only opted for a stair nosing without further installation, you can also design the risers with plain white risers made of PVC for an inexpensive but modern look.
Subfloor
The subfloor should be smooth, clean, dry, and structurally sound. If the subfloor is concrete, you should repair any cracks and level it out. You can also use a foam pad to help the floor float. If the subfloor is wood, you can use ¼” plywood.
Underlayment is not always necessary, but it can help with the longevity and performance of the vinyl flooring. Some materials to consider include
Plywood: A thin layer of plywood can create a smoother surface
Rubber: A good choice for noise reduction and a softer surface.
Foam: Lightweight and easy to work with, foam can reduce sound transmission and provide insulation.
Cork: A natural insulator that can also help with minor moisture issues.
Particleboard: An affordable option, but not very durable.
Felt: Made from recycled materials, felt can absorb sound and provide cushioning.
The thermal resistance coefficient, or R parameter, is important when choosing vinyl flooring for use with underfloor heating. A lower R parameter means more efficient heating.
This sense of flexibility will help to ensure that you have chosen the right product for the task at hand. Brand names such as F44 glue adhesive can be used to tackle a wide range of projects and its high bond strength can even address discrete requirements such as the addition of an underfloor heating system.
Additional Variables to Take Into Account
Durability is an important quality to watch out for. Adhesives with a fast drying time are generally recommended, as they are associated with less slippage and quicker installations (particularly in relation to large areas). The chemical qualities of the formulation in question as just as important. Is it resistant to mould, mildew and staining? Does it provide an impermeable barrier against moisture? Does it contain alkali-blocking compounds? Finally, be sure to choose an adhesive specifically designed for the area (domestic versus commercial requirements).
Choosing the appropriate vinyl adhesive is one of the most critical steps when addressing any type of flooring project. Please keep these recommendations in mind and feel free to refer back to this page for further guidance during the selection process.
Luxury Vinyl Tiles
LVT Flooring
Here are some LVT flooring FAQs:
Installation of LVT
It is generally recommended to employ a professional flooring installer to fit luxury vinyl tiles. However, DIY installations are common for the click lvt and rigid core lvt floors. Dry back or glue down Lvt is recommended to be fitted by a professional flooring installer, this is due to the requirements of sub-floor preparation and levelling.
Underlay
Using underlay with click LVT flooring can enhance comfort, reduce noise, and provide additional moisture protection. It’s important to choose an underlay specifically designed for LVT such as Polyflor vinyl as improper materials can cause issues like warping or adhesive failure. Always follow the manufacturer’s recommendations for underlay installation.
Cleaning
To clean LVT flooring, sweep or vacuum regularly to remove dirt and debris. For deeper cleaning, use a damp mop with a mild, pH-neutral cleaner. Avoid abrasive cleaners, harsh chemicals, or excessive water to prevent damage. Dry the floor afterward to maintain its shine and prevent slips.
Stains
To remove stains from LVT flooring, gently scrub the area with a soft cloth and a solution of warm water and mild dish soap. For tougher stains, use a mixture of water and white vinegar or a manufacturer-approved cleaner. Avoid abrasive pads or harsh chemicals to prevent damage.
Scuff marks
To remove scuff marks from LVT flooring, gently rub the area with a soft cloth or sponge using a mixture of warm water and mild dish soap. For stubborn marks, a soft white eraser or a dab of baking soda can help. Avoid using abrasive tools to prevent damage.
Warping
LVT flooring can warp due to excessive moisture, extreme temperature changes, or improper installation. To prevent warping, ensure proper acclimation before installation, maintain a stable environment, and clean up spills immediately. If warping occurs, replacing the affected planks or tiles may be necessary.
Steam cleaning
Steam cleaning is not recommended for LVT flooring, as the high heat and moisture can damage the surface and cause warping or loosening of adhesives.
Durability
LVT flooring is highly durable, resistant to scratches, dents, and water, making it ideal for high-traffic and moisture-prone areas. Its wear layer provides protection against everyday wear and tear, ensuring long-lasting performance (up to 30 years) with minimal maintenance.
Expansion and contraction
Luxury vinyl flooring can expand and contract slightly with temperature and humidity changes. To minimize this, leave a small expansion gap around the room during installation and maintain stable indoor conditions. Proper acclimation before installation also helps prevent these issues.
Moisture
Luxury vinyl tiles are water-resistant and can withstand moisture, making it suitable for areas like kitchens and bathrooms. However, excessive water or standing moisture can damage the flooring over time, so spills should be cleaned up promptly, and humidity levels should be monitored.

Luxury Vinyl Flooring
What is Luxury Vinyl Flooring?
When considering a new hard floor for your home or business, you will consider the well known flooring options, such as laminate flooring, solid or engineered wood flooring, ceramic tiles or cushion floor vinyl. However with the increasing number of people wanting a stylish floor that is practical and easy to maintain, then luxury vinyl flooring or LVT as the industry calls it is becoming ever more popular.
Luxury vinyl flooring is a customised form of vinyl. Although many people think of vinyl as a cheap looking lino, it is far from it. Many large companies such as Primark, Costa Coffee, Tesco and Subway use this type of product in their stores, which tells you something about its durability. As well as being very durable, it is also warm and quiet underfoot, easy to clean as it can be mopped, its designer, as you can use borders, different laying patterns and features to personalise your floor and it is realsitic as many products replicate its natural counterpart.
If you ask anyone at Flooring UK, which is the best flooring option for your home, we will always suggest luxury vinyl flooring due to the stylish appearance and super practical benefits. It ticks the most boxes as being the best option, however it is not the most affordable option, due to the preperation and fitting requirements.
Which luxury vinyl flooring brand is best?
Like in all walks of life, there are many different companies making the same or similar products. Some brands you will of heard of and some brands you wont of. In the luxury vinyl flooring industry, there are also many different brands available. Two brands dominate the industry in the UK at present, Karndean Flooring and Amtico. The main reason those names are well known, is because their marketing is done well. If you are considering luxury vinyl floors, dont limit yourself to one brand. Most products available are suitable, at Flooring UK, we have the Naturelle brand, which encompasses all the different LVT floors available, which are not as well known but are just as good as Karndean and Amtico, but a lot more affordable, the wear layer is what is the important factor in determining which brand is best.
Most brands produce a few different ranges, with different wear layers, based on what specification is required. Generally a 0.3mm wear layer is more than suitable for heavy home use, 0.5mm wear layers are classed as general commercail and 0.7mm wear layers are classed as Heavy commercial, light industrial. So dont think because you have a busy home you require a 0.7mm wear layer, a 0.3mm wear layer is more than suitable and generally comes with a 12 year guarantee at least.
Polyflor Camaro is a popular range as well as our Naturelle luxury vinyl flooring range as both products offer excellent value for money.

Vinyl Click Flooring
Click Vinyl is a variation of lvt flooring that allows hassle-free installation with planks that lock together. Vinyl click flooring is just like most other style of vinyl with the exception that it can be installed without the need of glue or alternative adhesives. You can simply slot the different tiles into each other, making sure they don’t slide and slip when you’re finished.
Vinyl click comes in a range of styles and designs, letting you fashion your home to how you please. Because the material is waterproof, click can be used to style a bathroom or kitchen floor as if it were laid with real stone such as slate. This means you can create an eloquent, luxury style without the cost and maintenance overheads of real stone.
Wood Effect Vinyl Flooring
Wood effect vinyl floor tiles will certainly add a dash of class to any room without the need to consider the expense of solid wood flooring and all the maintenance that goes with keeping solid wood from warping or scratching or suffering water damage. Instead, wood effect flooring in the form of vinyl means you get waterproof and easily maintained flooring for a fraction of the cost.
LVTs are fast becoming a viable alternative for wooden floors and ceramic tiles at the top end of the market. Active Flooring Ltd are expert LVT installers, we have fitted thousands of LVT hard floors and we fit all over London.
What are LVT floors?
LVT stands for Luxury Vinyl Tiles AKA Luxury Vinyl Planks. A superior product to domestic sheet vinyl, it can closely replicate the character, graining and look of real hardwood floors, stone or porcelain tiles. It comes in tile shapes and planks and can be fitted in interesting geometric patterns to create striking floor spaces. In a herringbone pattern for example, it can be quite difficult to tell whether it is real wood or not.
What are LVTs made from and how?
A process called photogravure is used to create a three dimensional representation of natural materials that is attached in a sandwich of glass fibre and vinyl layers to give it strength and durability. Products that are made from 100% vinyl material can boast Green building standards and can be eligible for LEED points in commercial applications.
The advantages of an LVT floor
• LVTs are water resistant and suitable for bathrooms and kitchens as well as dining areas.
• Specialized wear layers mean it is hard to scuff, dent, scratch or stain and most have a minimum guarantee of 10 years - some have 20.
• Unlike a wooden floor it won't fade over time or under UV light (from a Skylight for example) and because it is so hard to scratch it won't ever need sanding. Great for kitchen diners where chairs drag on the floor.
• LVT floors are very easy to maintain. A damp mop is all it takes.
• There is a vast selection of sizes, shapes and styles - from lined and distressed wood, to tactile slate and porcelain effect tiles.
How are LVTs fitted and why are they so expensive to fit?
Put simply they are expensive to fit because they are very labour intensive and labour is expensive. The floor has to be laser flat - technically +/- 3mm over 10m. This is a very flat surface. Amtico and most other Luxury Vinyl Tiles, Marmoleum, Safety vinyl etc are all are around 2.5mm to 3mm thick, so it will not be able to hide any deviation in the subfloor. Deviations in the subfloor make the floor look bad and make it more likley to fail.
Wooden subfloors
If you have a good wooden sub-floor underneath it has to be covered in 6mm SP101 or FG1 plyboard. This not only flattens it but provides rigidity. If the sub-floor is not rigid enough, over time when you walk on it, it will bounce very slightly. This will wear out the glue and eventually the tiles come away from the sub-floor. It is stipulated in Amtico's terms and conditions and they will not provide a product warranty without a suitable subfloor - or at least if you ever come to claim on the warranty you will not get any success without one.
This plywood / plyboard floor is then covered in either a flexible latex screed or feather finish (which is a light concrete compound) to cover the gaps, sanded and then the Amtico is fitted and adhered to it.
Concrete sub-floors
If you have a concrete sub-floor then a 3mm or so floor screed will (most likely, almost always) be required. This floor is allowed to dry for 24 hours, then it is sanded and the Amtico, LVT, LVP, Safety vinyl, Marmoleum or any other hard floor for that matter can be fitted to it.
Both floors are roughly the same in price, plyboard perhaps a little more expensive as the price of wood has increased faster than concerete.
Replacing the existing sub-floor
It is possible, although unlikely, that when the existing top-floor like say, vinyl, is removed from the floor underneath it is in excellent condition, perhaps only requiring a light feather application and sanding. It doesn't happen often but it does happen. In that instance, the costs for the sub-floor in the quote would be reduced and the total cost of the project will be cheaper.
If this is a cushion vinyl it probably won't have been stuck fast, however, if it is another LVT, Luxury Vinyl Plank or hard-floor then most likely some of the sub-surface will come away with the removal and it will need to be screeded again.
All these steps mean that LVT and all hard floors are expensive, time-consuming and require a skilled floor fitter to fit correctly.
Geomteric patterns
LVTs can be arranged in an almost infinite array of geometric patternsto make the floor the centre-piece of the room.
When you need an expert
At Active Flooring Ltd we have fitted thousands of LVT floors. The subfloor is key on an LVT, it has to be super-smooth and this is where the expert fitter takes the time an amateur won't. We offer a 6 month installation warranty on all LVT floors we supply and fit (upgradeable to 12 months) - that is an industry leading standard and an offer you will not find anywhere else in London.
By the way - LVT floors and hard floor in general require skilled fitting and this is a part of your project that you don't want to take any chances on. Spend the money on the right people. The consequences of a badly fitted hard floor can cause issues for years and cost many thousands of pounds to remedy.

Safety vinyl can often be specified with cove former. This is when sheet flooring is fitted up the wall to form a skirting. A capping strip or capping seal provides a sealed edge and neat finish to the top of the floor covering. This allows easy cleaning and to help prevent the accumulation of dirt and bacteria. Cove and capping is regularly used with safety flooring for a sanitary and sterile solution in healthcare environments.
Durable covings with this skirting provide some protection to the lower wall and offers easy cleaning.
Sheet flooring skirting is hygienic and long lasting so this can be an alternative to a skirting made from wood.

Hey there,
Hope you and your business are doing well. We've all been through so much this year!
I'm really sorry to bother you, and I know you are super busy, but I have been checking your website, and it seems that you are not ranking well for your ad words and key phrases. I actually help businesses like yours get a better ranking in google by using 10 proven techniques below.
I would really love the opportunity to work with you and your business, and bring your website to the top of Google’s list - the sweet spot where you get clicks and more business!
Please let me tell you some of the techniques that I can use below to help you get a better ranking in google search:
1. Title Tag Optimizations are missing, I can add these to your site.
2. Meta Tag Optimization descriptions are absent, I can add them too.
3. Heading Tags Optimization - No problem getting those put in there.
4. Targeted keywords are not placed into tags correctly.
5. Alt / Image tags Optimization is not present - it would take me seconds to write these.
6. Google Publisher is missing; I can set this up for you
7. Custom 404 Page is missing and I can create this for you.
8. The Products are not following Structured mark-up data, let me edit that in google webmaster tools.
9. Website Speed Development (Both Mobile and Desktop) I can make some tweaks and show you a speed performance using GTMetrics or Pingdom
10.Content Creation SEO work - As a native English speaker, I can create fantastic articles that people will want to read and share, these will bring business to you by word of mouth rather than expensive promotion via google paid search.
I'm sorry if this sounds a little technical, but rest assured, these techniques will certainly improve you ranking in search.
If you are interested then please let me know. I will send to you our Prices and Packages
Note: - If you are interested then we will send you, optimization report of your website.
Thank you kindly for your time and consideration,
Looking forward to working with you.
Kindest regards,
Michael Simone
